The National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) in partnership with the Integrated Seafarers of the Philippines (ISP), awarded the third and last tranche of the Php 500,000 grand prize of the 2017 NRCO-ISP Business Plan Competition.

The third tranche amounting to Php 150,000.00 was awarded to Mr. Jason Javier, an agriculture enthusiast, representative of Capt. Oswald Rollorazo, a seafarer, who won for their Total Mix Ration (TMR)/ Ruminant Feeds Production and Distribution” business proposal. The awarding was held on 7 May 2018 in Capas, Tarlac City.

The first tranche amounting to Php 50,000.00 was awarded on the final round last 10 November 2017; while the second tranche in the amount of Php 300,000 was given to him last 20 March 2018 after securing proper requirements and documents stated in the competition’s guidelines.

“Malaking tulong po ang ginagawa nila [NRCO at ISP] ang ganitong programa para matulungan ang at ma-enganyo, ma-inspire ang ating mga OFWs na makapag-umpisa sa pagne-negosyo habang nandoon pa sila [sa abroad] para mayroong pandagdag na puhunan para sa kanilang future business,” said Javier.

The TMR is a method of feeding the ruminants (such as cows, goats, and sheep) that combines all grains, protein feeds, vitamins, and minerals formulated to a specific nutrient concentration into a single feed mix.

Aside from the awarding of the prize, the NRCO and ISP also monitored the business in its location in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac on 8 May 2018. This is part of the program to validate whether the business is already operational.

The NRCO-ISP Business Plan Competition aims to encourage and hand-hold qualified seafarers intending to venture into social entrepreneurship and, at the same time, support the growth of jobs in their hometowns and communities.

Piloted in 2015, it has produced two job-generating businesses from the grand prize winners: Seaweeds Farming in Masinloc, Zambales; and Soft Broom Business in Manito, Albay.

For this year, the NRCO and ISP will launch the Business Plan Competition for seafarers and their families on 18 May 2018 at the Labor Governance Learning Center (LGLC), DOLE Building, Intramuros, Manila. ###
